Special Programs

We know how difficult and challenging it can be to find the resources and information to help your special needs child. Here at Capitan Municipal Schools, we have specially trained staff and faculty members to help guide you through the myriad of regulations, paper work, and complex jargon, so that you can take full advantage of your child’s rights to services.

We provide services to all students within our district who present with disabilities or who qualify for services under the definition for developmental delays. Please do not hesitate to talk with us for answers to your questions or if you feel your child should be receiving services.

Child Find

If you know of a child who may have developmental delays or a disability that may benefit from or need special education and/or related services, please contact our Special Services office at (575) 354-8550. This program is for those with disabilities from birth through 21 years old. You do not need to be related to the child to refer him or her to our office.

Parent Home Training (PHT) - UNM Center for Development and Disability (CDD) Programs

6 session telehealth or in-person parent consultation model to address parent's strongest concerns. Services are provided in English or Spanish.

Project ImPACT - UNM Center for Development and Disability (CDD) Programs

12 session telehealth parent coaching manualized treatment for children ages 2 to 7 to address play, engagement, imitation, and communication skills. Services available in English and Spanish.

Facing Your Fears (FYF) - UNM Center for Development and Disability (CDD) Programs

Cognitive-Behavior Therapy-based therapy group for children and adolescents with co-occurring autism and anxiety.
This model includes both the part/guardian(s) and child.
Currently is a telehealth-model so it is available for families statewide.

THRIVE Program - UNM Center for Development and Disability (CDD) Programs

An online three-month program for 18 to 30-year-old adults that aims to maximize a person's understanding of their life through self-determination and help them set goals for self-regulation and decision making. The program includes opportunities for adults to develop knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Self-awareness, delf-determination, and self-advocacy
- Life Management, personal health, and financial literacy
- Career exploration and preparation

PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills - NMSU Autism Diagnostic Center (ADC)

16-week evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated 13 to17 year-olds who are interested in learning new ways of making and keeping friends.

NMSU RUBI Parent Training for Disruptive Behavior Program

Parent-based treatment to cover 11 care sessions targeting behavioral principles, skill-building, and behavioral management to address challenging behaviors for children ages 3 to 11.
